Some of you are probably still chipping away at Dark Souls 3 while others are on their second or third run of From Software’s latest masterpiece. There are some pretty impressive weapons to discover regardless of your progress. Not every weapon is best suited for every single build but if you’re a fan of a particular weapon type or of the more exotic ways to cause damage, then it’s worth checking out these 15 weapons.

Uchigatana
One of the best weapons in Dark Souls 3 can be gained in the first half hour or so of playing. The Uchigatana is a swift katana that drops from the Sword Master to the left of Firelink Shrine’s entrance. Along with the ability to parry into strong blows and executing a fast lunge, the Uchigatana allows you to inflict bleeding damage if you strike enough times. It’s pretty devastating, especially in PvP.
In Dark Souls you'll find plenty of weapons and armor sets - we're describing only these, which make the gameplay easier plus places where you can find them.
Weapons
1) Drake Sword - one of the first powerful swords you can find. In order to get it, you have to shoot the wyvern's tail several times, while you're under the bridge (between Undead Burg and Undead Parish). It is a perfect weapon for the first part of the game. Later on it is not enough.
2) Lighting Spear - useful weapon, which can be obtained in Sen's Fortress. Lightning damage is powerful but game creators try to make it weaker. All spears are good because you can use them while having your shield raised.
3) Zweihander - a large sword which can be nicely enhanced. You can find it on the cemetery next to the entrance to Catacombs (at the very end of locations - it is guarded by large group of skeletons).
4) Halberd - specific weapons while guaranteeing good hits.
5) Longbow - if enhanced, it is good enough for the entire game.
Shields
Shield can be divided in three types:
1) Small - ideal for parrying/counterattacking, poor with blocking.
2) Standard - good for parrying/counterattacking and blocking.
3) Greatshields - perfect for blocking.
We suggest using following shields:
Target Shield - Small. Perfect for parrying and only for that. You'll find it in Undead Burg before the fight with Capra Demon.
Hollow Soldier Shield - Standard - you can find it quite early, because it is dropped by undead. It is fairly good at the start levels.
Spider Shield - Standard - this shield defends against poison. Useful in some situations. You'll find it in Depths after jumping into secret exit behind the Butcher's table.
Dragon Crest Shield - Standard - this shield defends against fire. It is located in Valley of Drakes next to undead dragon.
Black Knight Shield - Standard - good for blocking and parrying. It is dropped on the later part of the game by Black Knight.
Eagle Shield - Greatshield - on of the first great shield you can find, so it is worth to use it. Location - Blighttown, next to bonfire.
Armors
Dingy Set - it is a set with great resistance against curses, which can be collected after death of Fire Keeper in Firelink Shrine (dumb woman in the cell). For this event to occur, you have to rescue a prisoner from the cathedral before the fight with Bell Gargoyle and leave him alone. This armor is useful in some places.
Gold-Hemmed Black Set - great armor, offering high resistance for poison. It is also light and offers surprisingly good physical defense. Even despite its funny. How to get it: you can obtain it right after defeating Queelag and getting to Demon's Ruins. Just go to the location of fight with boss Ceaseless Discharge (check the location's description). Then, instead of attacking the giant, run to the altar behind him and take the set.
Havel's Set or Stone Armor Set - two heavy armors. First of them can be found in Anor Londo (in a basement behind the room with fireplace, where the passage is hidden). The second on is located in Darkroot Garden (near the ruins where Alvina, the cat, resides). Wearing heavy armors increases maximum burden and we do not want to have slow character. The solution to this is Havel's Ring, which you'll obtain after fighting with Havelem (a similar effect has Mask of the Father dropped randomly from Pinwheel).
Set Of Artorias - its characteristic feature is the high durability. An additional asset is the well balanced durability, against all the other factors (around 60pts per factor)You can buy the armor from Donhalla of Zena after you kill Artorias. Each element is the cost of 20 000 souls.
Dark Souls III has over 50 new weapons, gear, and equipment as compared to the previous installment in the Dark Souls franchise. Which is the Best weapons to Use in Dark Souls 3? This is one of the most debatable queries among Dark Souls community, and to help them sort out this billion dollar query I decided to sort out the huge list of weapons available in the game and presents a Top 10 Lethal Weapons which Dark Souls III players must try. So without any further ado, here is the list.
Crystal Sage Rapier
The Crystal Sage Rapier is a Thrusting Sword with tiny crystals scattered across its blade, used by the Crystal Sages for self-defence. Even though this Weapon cannot be Infused or Buffed you can still use this efficiently together with Symbol of Avarice, Covetous Gold Serpent Ring, and either a Rusted Coin or a Rusted Gold Coin.
- Location: Transposed from Soul of a Crystal Sage
Claw
Claw is a weapon favored by the intelligence of an eastern land. The lacerations it inflicts do not mend easily. If you want to play it like Wolverine then go ahead and slash them all with these Claws. You can infuse and buff these Claws and Reinforce with Titanite. It works best when you are trying to use parry attacks against your opponent.
- Location: Beneath the central platform patrolled by Dark Masses in Consumed King’s Garden.
Pontiff Knight Curved Sword
Pontiff Knights Curved Sword are the swords wielded by the Pontiff’s knights, frigid spirits that linger in Irithyll. This Sword requires Twinkling Titanite to strike twice horizontally, with the second hit having a large ice blade which extends range significantly.
- Location: Dropped by Pontiff Knights in Irithyll or bought from Greirat once he returns from his first outing.
Drang Hammers
When the Drang Knights disbanded, they scattered across the lands as sellswords. They quickly became known for shieldless, aggressive tactics that struck fear in the hearts of men. Bash foes with a large spinning motion, and utilize momentum to transition into an overhanded strong attack smash.
- Location: Looted at the Cathedral of the Deep: next to one of the chained-Giants.
Demon's Greataxe
This Greataxe, a favorite among demons, contains the strength of fire. The demons, born of Chaos, harbor fire, and yet they are twisted and malformed, such that they were never meant to be. You need to reinforce it with Titanite Scale for the best use. This weapon cannot be infused or Buffed.
- Location: Transposable from Soul of a Demon
Irithyll Straight Sword
Straight sword bestowed upon the Outrider Knights of the Boreal Valley. This weapon is enshrouded in frost and causes frostbite. Every Outrider Knight one day devolves into a beast, constantly hounded by Pontiff Sulyvahn's black eyes. One of the Fast weapons which use the normal attack to break a foe's guard from below, and strong attack to slash upwards with a forward lunge.
- Location: Dropped by Outrider Knight in the Undead Settlement
Farron Greatsword
Greatsword of the Abyss watchers which is a typically paired with an unusual dagger. Must try this weapon as it provides 20% bonus damage against Abyssal foes and is upgradable with Titanite Scale to +4. When dual wielding, user can perform a diving low spin attack(similar to Boss attack). It can Deflect an attack if you timed properly and follow up with a critical hit, executed with the dagger.
- Location: Created with Soul of the Blood of the Wolf
Uchigatana
A unique katana characterized by the fine craftsmanship of an eastern land where it was forged. This is one of the weapons which can be found early in the game and if you are holding stance to rapidly execute a lunging slash with a normal attack or a deflecting parry with the strong attack you can take any Enemy down.
- Location: Dropped by Sword Master Saber just outside Firelink Shrine
Elenora
This is a strange weapon found among malformed inhabitants of the Profaned Capital. The Profaned Flame was triggered by the curse of these women, relatives of a certain oracle, but despite their culpability, they went on living, without any cares. If you buffed this weapon with Feast Bell then each hit will recover 24 HP. Its skill is Feast Bell which can be executed by holding up Axe and wave to emit a solemn chime to temporarily make weapons lacerating.
- Location: Dropped by a giant strange hand-faced enemy by the toxic swamp in Profaned Capital.
Fume Ultra Greatsword
One of My Favorite weapon in Dark Souls 3 as this twisted sword is the heaviest of all ultra greatswords, resembles black slate. This weapon, said to belong to a traitor from long ago, was so heavy that it found no owner, and became a forgotten relic of history. If you use it's weight to lunge forward with a low stance and increased poise, and follow with a crushing strong attack then your enemies are down in one blow. Make sure you use this weapon once in the game.
- Location: Dropped by Knight Slayer Tsorig underneath the Smoldering Lake
The Coals and Gems sections of this guide is intended to be used for reference and contains minor spoilers (the locations of where the item can be found); the real content of this guide can be found under Best Scaling Weapon Infusions.

Best Scaling Weapon Infusions
Don't freak out if your favorite weapon isn't on any of the lists below, the weapons listed are not necessarily mean the best weapons in the game (they just scale extremely well with certain infusions). A weapon's moveset and range has a huge impact on a weapon's viability and this does not take that into account. Also, since boss weapons cannot be infused, you will not see any of those weapons either.
The mod is designed to enhance the look of the map, and minimize any effect on your FPS. Fallout 4 ps4 mods how to install. The most favorited mod for the PS4 is this simple foliage reskin, making the formerly colorless wasteland into a brighter apocalyptic environment, bringing a splash of green to go with all that gray. Considering the popularity, creator ANDREWCX did a pretty good job.
General Scaling
Any Scaling Infusions
The following weapons are considered the best scaling weapons in Dark Souls 3. Most will scale A in STR or DEX when heavy or sharp infused, B/B when refined, S in INT or FAI when crystal or lightning, and A/A in INT/FAI when dark or chaos infused.
Note: Dark Sword, Lothric Knight Sword, and Painting Guardian's Curved Sword scale B/B when dark or chaos infused.
Astora Greatsword (16/18/0/0)
The staple weapon for Dark Souls 3 scaling weapons, the Astora Greatsword has reasonable strength and dexterity requirements and a decent moveset. Although you might want to consider a slightly worse scaling Dark Sword for a slightly faster moveset, this greatsword is still a really good option (especially for the 3 extra points in DEX, that can be made up by using the Carthus Milkring in most builds).
Winged Spear (12/15/0/0)
From a purely data standpoint, Winged Spear makes a solid case for being one of the weapons in Dark Souls 3. It scales extremely well regardless of infusion, has extremely low stat requirements, has a weapon art that cannot be interrupted (also known as hyper armor), and can be used with the Leo Ring.
Murakumo (20/18/0/0)
The Murakumo is a little bit of a disappointment in Dark Souls 3, it has a questionable moveset and requires a heavy investment into strength and dexterity. I'd pass on using it, but it's still listed in this section because of how well it scales.
Carthus Curved Greatsword (22/18/0/0)
One of the few solid scaling weapons with an auxillery effect, the Carthus Curved Greatsword has a few notable drawbacks: (1) high stat requirements if you're not using a quality build, (2) subpar weapon art, (3) slow and heavy, and (4) heavy.
Even though this weapon scales well, you should only really consider using it for high vitality, quality builds.
Dark Sword (16/15/0/0)
Along with the Estoc and Washing Pole, the Dark Sword is regarded as one of the best weapons in Dark Souls 3. The same argument can be made for this weapon that was made for the Winged Spear, it just has Stomp as it's weapon art (which is normally reserved for greatswords) instead of charge.
Lothric Knight Sword (11/18/0/0)
It's the Balder Side Sword (BSS) from Dark Souls and if you know anything about that game, you'll know about the BSS. A slightly less stat intensive weapon than the Astora Greatsword, you'll miss out on some of the sweeping attacks for thrust attacks (not always abad thing).
Painting Guardian's Curved Sword (7/19/0/0)
The Painting Guardian's Curved Sword (PGCS) is one if, if not, the best scaling weapon in the game. It attacks really fast, but has almost no range. Extremely similar to the Bandit's Knife, it's not really a viable weapon because you'll never hit anything with it.
Physical Scaling
Heavy, Sharp, Refined
The following weapons scale best for strength, dexterity, or quality builds.
Dark Souls 1 Best Quality Weapon Full
Drang Hammers (18/16/0/0)
In addition to the fact that Drang Hammers are great for any strength and/or dex build, they also have one of the best movesets in the game. Dual-wielding (two-handing) this weapons has a nice stun/knockdown on its second attack.
Gothhard Twinswords (12/18/0/0)
Gothhard Twinswords are the speed counterpart to the Drang Hammers. A dex style weapon that works well for strength builds as well, the twinswords are extremely fast (especially when using the rolling attack).
Zweihander (19/11/0/0)
The Zweihander is another classic Dark Souls weapon and great for strength builds. It's a little slow, but its moveset is solid and the weapon art, Stomp, is very good.
Long Sword (10/10/0/0)
The long sword is simple but effective; it's one of the rare early game weapons that can make it through the entire game and still be extremely useful.
The broadsword is pretty much the same weapon, with longer range and just a little slower; a refined-infused one scales C/C instead of B/B (and sharp is C/C instead of C/B).
Great Club (28/0/0/0)
Another classic Dark Souls weapon, the Great Club sees a few improvements in this installment of the game. The Great Club scales both for strength and dexterity builds (I'm not sure why it scales well when sharp-infused, but whatever, it does). The Warcry weapon art is a strong attack rating (AR) buff and improves the moveset during its duration.
Exile Greatsword (24/16/0/0)
Similar to the Great Club, the Exile Greatsword has some odd weapon infusions; it's another strength-type weapon that scales better as a dex weapon (sharp-infusion).
Reinforced Club (12/0/0/0)
The reinforced club lacks sufficient range for a lot of strength and quality builds, but makes up for it with its bleed effect (it's one of the only weapons that scales well and has a bleed effect). It's extremely useful against bosses for this reason.
Note: The scales identical to the reinforced club, requires 10 STR, but has no bleed auxillery effect.
Elemental Scaling
Crystal, Lightning, Chaos, and Dark
Remember that Astora Greatsword, Winged Spear, Murakumo, Dark Sword, Lothric Knight Sword, and the Painting Guardian's Curved Sword from the General Scaling section scale S in crystal and lightining, and scale well here.
Great Corvian Scythe (16/18/0/0)
The Great Corvian Scythe scales S for crystal and lightning infusions and A/A for chaos and dark infusions. It also has a bleed auxillery effect and somewhat low stat requirements. However, it's moveset is kind of bad for PvP.
Special Effect Scaling
Simple and Blessed
Simple and blessed weapons (and shields) are normally used for their other effects, not really for their damage. That being said, most weapons that have good elemental scaling (see the previous section) also scale well for simple and blessed infusions; weapons that normally scale S as crystal, lightning, chaos, or dark scale A with simple or blessed infusions.
Great Corvian Scythe (16/18/0/0)
The Great Corvian Scythe is the only weapon in the game that scales S in INT or FAI depending on the simple or blesssed scaling. See the elemental scaling section for more information.
Auxillery Infusions
Blood and Poison
For the most part, any weapon that already has an auxillery effect benefits from blood or poison infusions. Infusing a weapon with blood or poison adds or increases the auxillery effect of that item, but at a slightly lower value than buffing the weapon using a buff/resin. That being said, it's still better to use Carthus Rouge or Human Pine Resin instead.
Bandit's Knife (6/12/0/0)
Due to the speed of the Bandit's Knife, it is arguably the highest damage weapon in the game; like the Painting Guardian's Curved Sword, it's range is way too short to be a great weapon. A poison or blood infused Bandit's Knife can come in handy during specific situations, like PvP against Greatshield or in boss fights.
Washing Pole (18/20/0/0) & Uchigatana (11/16/0/0)
The Washing Pole and the Uchigatana are lumped together since they are pretty much the same weapon, there's just a trade-off of weight and stats for range (and you're probably better off going with the Washing Pole). Both of these weapons also make great quality build weapons (40 STR/40 DEX) and work well when refined but scale slightly worse that the weapons mentioned in the above section.
Other Notable Weapons
Crystal Saint Bident (12/12/0/16, scales E/E/C/C)
While E/E/C/C isn't anything all that special, the unique thing about the Saint Bident is that it maintains its faith (FAI) scaling even when crystal infused.

Choosing the best starting gift and class in Dark souls is the same you'd face in any new role-playing game. Which one-time choice should I pick when I don't even know what I'm up against?
Thankfully, whatever choice you make - or have made if you are reading this after the fact - won't make a real impact on your playthrough.
You can still use the same skills other classes have, while the other gifts can be found on your adventure through other means.
That said, there are advantages to some options over others, which we explain with our picks for best class and best gift in Dark Souls.
If you're looking for more help, our Dark Souls walkthrough and guide can help with all other areas of the game, including the dreadedTaurus Demon, Capra Demon, Ornstein and Smough bosses.
Dark Souls classes - why Pyromancer is our choice for the best class to start with
When starting Dark Souls, you'll be presented with a big chart while you create your character asking what class you'd like to pick. This can be daunting to more than a few players, with lists of stats and charts full of options that you might not be able to get your head around.
The classes are as follows:
Class | Description |
---|---|
Warrior | Weapon expert, high strength and dexterity |
Knight | High HP, solid armour, not easily toppled. |
Wanderer | Wields scimitar, high dexterity |
Thief | High critial hits, has the Master Key |
Bandit | High strength, wields heavy battle axe |
Hunter | Wields bow, weak with magic and decent at close range |
Sorcerer | Casts soul sorceries |
Pyromancer | Casts fire spells and wields a hand axe |
Cleric | Wields a mace and casts healing miracles |
Deprived | Unclothed, only armed with club and old shield |
Be aware that your starting class does not dictate what skills or abilities you're able to use, and instead is only a 'starter' build to help you out at the beginning of the game.
As such, we'd recommend that you start with the Pyromancer class. It might not have the shiniest armour out of the gate, but does however have a large number of options and skills available to them.
The most notable of these is the Pyromancy Flame, with Fireball in your Spell Slot as soon as you start the game. Equip the Pyromancy Flame in your offhand once you've completed the tutorial, and you will be able to hurl ranged fireballs that do some pretty decent damage.
The other benefit of this is that you will be kiting enemies out of areas, and the Fireball is an excellent lure to get them out of their spots and potentially stop an ambush.
Other classes, such as the Sorcerer and Hunter also have ranged options, but none of them are anywhere near as effective as the Pyromancy Flame from the start of the game.
:: Best gaming mouse 2018
Additionally, you will be able to free a Pyromancer in the Undead Burg, who will then upgrade your Pyromancy Flame to do even more damage.
The best part? You don't even need anything else other than souls to upgrade it to a decent level, and you will also have access to a number of other spells to equip.
Other than the Pyromancy Flame, the Pyromancer also has access to the Hand Axe, this will also help you out a lot during the start of your journey, as a weapon that has decent-enough range to take on close-range enemies and versatile in sticky situations with its varied one handed and two handed movesets.
If you're looking for more help, our Dark Souls walkthrough and guide can help with all other areas of the game, including the dreadedTaurus Demon, Capra Demon, Ornstein and Smough bosses. Meanwhile, we have explainers on how to access DLC Artorias of the Abyss, the best gift and best class in Dark Souls, Dark Souls' best weapons, Dark Souls Covenants, Dark Souls Estus Flasks locations, Dark Souls Titanite Slab locations and NPC quests including Lautrec of Carim.
Dark Souls gifts - Why the Master Key is the best starting gift to choose
As well as the choice of a class, you can pick one of many gifts to help you on your adventure. These are:
![Quality Quality](/uploads/1/2/3/7/123705733/146803893.jpg)
Gift | Description |
---|---|
None | Start with no gift |
Goddess's Blessing | Fully restores HP and status |
Black Firebomb | Explodes upon impact; more deadly than standard bomb |
Twin Humanities | Gives you two humanity |
Binoculars | User to peer at faraway sights |
Pendant | No effect, but can be traded with Snuggly the Crow for Souvenir of Reprisal |
Master Key | Opens any basic lock |
Tiny Being's Ring | Grants a small increase to HP |
Old Witch's Ring | Trade with Snuggly the Crow for Sunlight Maggot helmet; can understand Quelaag's sister when equipped |
There is nothing here that will make or break your game (and contrary to what the game says, nothing is truly useless), so you are free to pick whatever you like without missing out.
However, given the choice, we recommend going for the Master Key. This will let you unlock most locked doors in Dark Souls, and also allows you to break the traditional path that most players use to finish the game in order to get something that'll see you through the first half of the game - the Crimson Set.
Beware, this path is not for the faint of heart, as you will likely die trying to get this loot a fair few times.
From Firelink Shrine, turn around after getting to the bonfire and head down, from there, you will eventually find a lift, leading to New Londo Ruins.
Once you arrive, make your way down the stairs and ignore the docile hollows and hang right until you see another lift. This lift will take you back up and to a locked door. Unlock it with the Master Key and you will arrive in the Valley of Drakes.
From here, hang left and go across the small wooden bridge and into the cave you see ahead of you. From here, there are three trolls that will definitely want to kill you, speed past these, and head into Blighttown.
Run towards a ladder heading down, then go down the next four ladders you see until you encounter a giant firebug. Hug the wall and walk off (trust us here!) and you will then land on a platform, head left from here and across a branch, where poison knives will be thrown at you, so run ahead as fast as you can. From here, you will encounter another Firebug that will try to kill you.
Just ahead, and you will find the Crimson Set, which is incredibly light, which allows for a decent light roll early on, and is better than any starting armour. You can also find a remedy spell here. Now, you can either try to make your way back up, and die to spawn back in Firelink Shrine.
Follow these steps, and you will be fully kitted out for a pretty easy ride through the Undead Burg and Undead Parish to ring the first bell. If you're struggling, or if it's your first time playing, then maybe getting to this Bell first and learning the mechanics, then attempting this run, will suit you better.
Even if you don't use this route, the Master Key will allow you to open other doors on your adventure, and is much more useful compared to the common or one-use gifts you're otherwise offered.
